Baghdad Bombings 2007

February 12th, 2007 by alexh

Monday February 12, 2007. Baghdad, Iraq experienced three bombs which killed seventy-four people and wounded one hundred seventy.

People were crowed together celebrating the anniversary for the 2006 bombings at the Golden Mosque when two car bombs went off in Shorja Market. Killing sixty-three people and wounding one hundred fifty. The explosions sent thick black smoke into the sky.

Another car bomb went off earlier that day, before the celebration, killing nine and wounding more than twenty wounded.

These bombings affect may affect the world by causing the world’s leaders to change the way they handle rebellions in their own countries. It may also cause political unrest in trying to decide if other counties should aid Iraq in their conquest of economic development.

It’s dificult to comment or even discuss issues like this one, as I, an 8th grader truly has no control or affect in these awful and inhuman situations. I thought this event was also very ironique as the bombings occured the same hour the immense crowd was celebrating the 2006 bombings anniversary of the Golden Mosque. Also, not only are these car bombings another step towards chaos for the city of Baghdad, but as Alex stated it is an event that will affect our world and that we will always remeber. The massive numbers of casualties also make this event a special one, but the symbolism of the actual location is a major part of it. Nice Job Alex, this was a very interesting and creative event to choose from all the others that make the world what it is.

I really think this is a good article because it shows us how dangerous people are willing to get and we can be more careful of things, the security should be more advanced. What if it influenced other criminals. Good job :P

Hey, it’s sort of sad that these bombs etc. don’t ever stop. I like that you used it and brought attention to it but I think a bit of variety would do good and these deadly bombs have been going on for 3 years now. Perhaps more interesting would have been the affects of Bush’s ‘big scheme’ on Iraq, and whether or not it has changed anything. Anyway, good job

Hi Alex. I think your current events summary was well described. This is an important article to summarize because it tells us that there are quite a number of car bombs happening in Baghdad and this is a very serious event. Many people may be killed/injured if this doesn’t stop. I hope people will help and support Iraq.
